able to create network maps to manage hosts by ping, traceroute,
telnet, etc.

One of the best open-source network protocol analyzers. It
is becoming more complex with every release, but that is not necessarily
a bad thing. If you have an old copy, there are many security fixes
in the latest version. It is great for debugging your own networking
code found in your development applications.
